Halifax Pride Parade 2011

Riding with pride.

Today, friends and I attended the annual Pride Parade here in Halifax, which as it turns out, is Canada’s fourth largest – and the largest in Atlantic Canada.   I was thrilled to see so many folks, young and old, come out to support our wonderful lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities.

Community representatives shared their support.

This year’s theme was “better together” – representing the importance of working together to move forward.  Float representation spanned many different local businesses, but also extended to religious, government, and charitable organizations. Even our beautiful Miss Nova Scotia made an appearance!

Charming and colourful personalities at every turn!

Gold Man (Gold Woman was entertaining the crowds on the other side of the street)

Despite a few clouds, parade participants kept the mood festive and fun, entertaining the crowds with a wide array of creative costumes and floats. Pride and community passion shone throughout the entire 90 minute event.

Floats from Jay Wells Salon and Studio in Essence.

Kudos to Jay Wells Salon and Studio in Essence who wowed the crowd with their fantastic dance performances.  They were spectacular to watch!

Even our four legged friends got into the spirit!

Throughout the event, friendly parade participants treated spectators to food, gifts and discount cards. Even storefront shops showed their support, such as downtown’s Pretty Things Boutique, which greeted guests with colourful lei’s and gift bags just for stopping in. Overall, a very impressive show of support!

An incredibility positive atmosphere paired with well executed event management make this a great activity for the whole family.  If you ever have the chance to attend a pride parade, I highly encourage you to do so.  ~LM

Great pictures and support blog, Lisa Marie…parades that show community spirit and togetherness are well worth the effort to attend, for certain. Looks/sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves. It’s nice to see families supporting each other. Thanks for sharing, enjoy the future parades!
